Lakeside Park Club is one of those places that's been quietly great for over a century. Lewis Ginter first developed Lakeside Park back in 1896, and in 1921 Donald Ross laid a golf course over it, tree-lined and rolling with the small elevated greens that are his whole signature. It spent years known as Jefferson Lakeside before going back to the name it started with. Drawn hole by hole, laid out the way it actually plays.
What makes Lakeside is that it doesn't need length to get you. It sits right around 6,200 yards and it's still one of the toughest short courses you'll ever play, exactly the kind of Ross puzzle where the trouble is around the greens, not off the tee. It's a members' course through and through, a parkland walk just north of the city that most people never get to see. Put it on a shirt because a course with this much history deserves to hang somewhere you'll see it.
