Everybody around Wilmington just calls it The Rock. It’s the muni tucked right off I-95, the one that got voted best public course in Delaware and earned it. Alex Findlay laid out the original back in the 1930s, and in 2008 Lester George tore it down and rebuilt it longer and smarter, the same guy who’s worked on DuPont and Hershey. Drawn hole by hole, laid out the way it actually plays.
What makes The Rock is that it’s a little quirky and a lot of fun. Elevation changes, blind doglegs, a couple forced carries, deep bunkers waiting if you get greedy. It’s the course the whole city cycles through, where the tee sheet stays packed and everybody’s got a story about the hole that got them. Made for the regulars who’ve played The Rock more times than they can count and still come back for more.
